2 Killed In Crash Near Hwy. 25 In San Benito Co.
SAN BENITO CO. (BCN) ―
A California Highway Patrol spokesman confirms that two people are dead Monday afternoon following a collision between a sport-utility vehicle and a sedan near the junction between state Highway 25 and state Highway 156 in San Benito County.
The crash was reported at approximately 1 p.m., according to CHP spokesman Chris Armstrong.
In addition to the two fatalities, two people were injured and taken to a local hospital when a Mazda MPV sport-utility vehicle and a Dodge Neon collided at approximately 1 p.m. after one vehicle apparently ran a red light. Investigating officers are still determining exactly what happened in the crash, according to CHP Officer Chris Armstrong.
"It's still not determined which vehicle entered the intersection against the red light," Armstrong said.
The identities of the deceased are not being released pending notification of next of kin. Both the dead and injured occupants were in the Dodge Neon, Armstrong said.
Highways 25 and 156 were closed for several hours, but reopened late Monday afternoon. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
