Feds Seize $700K In Fake Nikes At Port Of Oakland
OAKLAND (BCN) ―
Just smuggle it? More than $700,000 worth of counterfeit Nike sneakers, hidden behind cartons of toilet paper on a ship from Hong Kong, was seized last week at the Port of Oakland, U.S. customs officials said Friday.
U.S. Customs and Border Enforcement officials said a shipping container that arrived at the port Sept. 30 was supposed to contain $20,674 worth of kitchen cabinets, but when customs officers opened it, they discovered the fake shoes stashed behind 30 cartons of industrial toilet paper.
The 568 cartons of footwear were worth an estimated $704,000, customs officials said.
