Fairfield Brothers Arrested On Drug Charges

 CBS 5 CrimeWatch
FAIRFIELD (BCN) ― Two brothers were arrested Monday after a marijuana garden, other drugs and weapons were found at a condo in the 1900 block of Grande Circle, police said Tuesday.

Armando Mata, 27, an alleged Norteno gang member, and his brother Jorge Mata, 29, were arrested for cultivating marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale and possession of a controlled substance for sale, police said.

Armando Mata also was arrested for shooting at an inhabited dwelling in the 700 block of Capricorn Circle on April 10 and Jorge Mata also was arrested for being armed while committing a felony. Both were booked into the Solano County jail.

Patrol Officer Hank McCoy saw Armando Mata standing in front of the condo around 4:15 p.m. Monday and realized he was wanted for shooting into the Grande Circle dwelling, Lt. Robert Bunting said.

McCoy tried to detain Mata but he fled and McCoy chased Mata to the back porch of his brother Jorge's condo, Bunting said.

Jorge Mata came out of the condo and interfered with McCoy and after a brief Chase, Jorge Mata was shot with a Taser and arrested, police said.

Police found marijuana plants on the back porch of Mata's condo and called narcotics officers who got a search warrant, Bunting said.

Police found 50 immature marijuana plants, 70 ecstasy tablets, 1.4 pounds of processed marijuana. 1.8 ounces of methamphetamine, three handguns, six 30-round magazines for an old Thompson machine gun, a bulletproof vest and $1,549 in cash, Bunting said.

Armando is one of the Norteno gang members listed in Fairfield's proposed gang injunction that prohibits gang activity within a 4.2- mile area of the city, Bunting said.

The condo is located near a safety zone and gang task force detectives twice tried to serve injunction papers on Armando Mata, Bunting said.

Bunting said Armando Mata had a news article about the city's gang injunction effort pinned on the wall of the condo. A hearing on the injunction is scheduled for July 2 in Solano County Superior Court.
