Pregnant Oakland Teen Shot Dead, 6 Others Wounded
OAKLAND (CBS 5 / KCBS / AP / BCN) ―
An 18-year-old pregnant woman and her unborn child were dead after gunmen opened fire on a group of people standing in front of an East Oakland apartment building -- with bullets striking as many as eight of them.
The Alameda County coroner's office identified the deceased as Kennah Wilson.
Police indicated up to six others were wounded, including several teen boys as well as a 20-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman.
Two of the injured victims were hospitalized in critical condition.
The identities of the surviving victims were not immediately released.
Sgt. Lou Cruz said at least two gunmen in a car fired into a group of 30 or 40 people standing near an apartment building in the 8200 block of MacArthur Boulevard near 83rd Avenue.
The shootings happened around 10 p.m. Friday night.
The shooting location was the site of previous deadly shootings in which 2 people were killed and at least 4 others injured.
Police said Wilson was 7 months pregnant and doctors said her unborn daughter died as a result of the woman's injuries, bringing to 94 the number of homicides in Oakland this year.
According to Sgt. Cruz, after the gunmen opened fire, the group scattered.
Police found the pregnant woman, who witnesses said had been shot in the chest. She died at the scene.
Investigators sought the community's help in finding the suspects.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland offered up to a $40,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the gunmen.
No suspects had been arrested and no motive had been determined for the shootings.
