License Revoked For E. Bay Doctor Accused Of Rape

DUBLIN (BCN) ― The Medical Board of California has revoked the license of a Dublin physician who allegedly drugged and then secretly took hundreds of photographs of adult men undressed in medical examination rooms.

A $1 million arrest warrant issued by Dublin police on Oct. 5 also alleges that Dr. Tony Shiu, a private general internal medicine doctor, sodomized one man and sexually molested another man after incapacitated.

The Medical Board issued an interim suspension of Shiu's license last November.

The revocation was issued Thursday and takes effect July 30, according to Medical Board spokeswoman Candis Cohen.

Shiu apparently fled Dublin several weeks before the arrest warrant was issued and is still at large, Dublin police Sgt. Herb Walters said Monday.

In its report on Thursday, the Medical Board said Shiu's conduct constituted excessive prescribing, prescribing without medical indication, violation of drug laws, sexual abuse and sexual exploitation of patients and unprofessional conduct.
Cohen said Shiu didn't appear at hearings on Nov. 22 and Feb. 8 and didn't contest the proceedings against him.

According to Walters, Dublin detectives who searched Shiu's home in Dublin on Sept. 8 found about 450 digital photographs of at least 10 exposed men in medical settings who were unconscious and unaware they were being photographed.

The arrest warrant alleges that Shiu drugged two men on Aug. 18 and sodomized one of the men.

The two men allege they began a night out at Shiu's residence on Aug. 18 but woke up the next day with no recollection of the night before.

According to police, one of the men had never met Shiu before but the other was Shiu's friend and patient.

Walters said police "have suspicions" about where Shiu is hiding and are working with the U.S. Marshals Office to try to apprehend him so that he can stand trial.
