Swarm Of Small Earthquakes Hit East Bay
DUBLIN (CBS 5 / KCBS / BCN) ―
A swarm of small earthquakes were felt in the East Bay Thursday afternoon and evening.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the largest was a preliminary magnitude 3.2 quake that struck at 6:28 p.m., followed about 10 minutes later by a 3.0 aftershock, both near Dublin.
According to the USGS, the earthquakes both had a depth of 6.6 miles and were centered two miles west of Dublin and three miles south of San Ramon.
The first quake to occur was a magnitude 2.9, also centered two miles west of Dublin, the USGS said. It struck about 4:19 p.m.
Seven other smaller quakes were also detected between the first and the last; the largest of which was a 2.6 magnitude.
USGS spokeswoman Leslie Gordon said earthquakes of this magnitude
are fairly common in the Bay Area.
"That's the message here; these are teeny weeny things," she said.
No damage was reported from any of the quakes, although Bay Area Rapid Transit trains were delayed up to 15 minutes system-wide as protocol after an earthquake.
