Weekend Temblors Strike In North & South Bay
SANTA ROSA (CBS 5 / AP / BCN) ―
A moderate earthquake offshore struck the coast of the North Bay Sunday, but there were no reports of any damage or injury.
Meantime, three smaller earthquakes struck in the South Bay on Saturday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The USGS said the North Bay quake had a magnitude of 4.1 and struck at 2:28 a.m. Sunday at a depth of about 3 miles.
It was centered about 40 miles west of Santa Rosa and 74 miles northwest of San Francisco.
Sheriff's dispatchers in Sonoma County said they have received no word of injuries or damage.
Meantime, in the South Bay, the most recent temblor struck at 11:40 p.m. Saturday and had a magnitude of 2.3 with an epicenter about 6 miles northeast of San Jose in Santa Clara County, according to USGS.
The USGS did not report the depth of the epicenter.
Two earthquakes earlier Saturday struck 10 miles north of Morgan Hill and 15 miles east-southeast of San Jose, both in Santa Clara County.
The first earthquake, with a 2.9 magnitude, struck about 5 a.m., with an epicenter 4.2 miles deep.
The second one struck about 6:25 a.m., had a magnitude of 2.0. and had an epicenter about 4 miles deep.
