Green Beat: Duraflame Develops Greener Fire Logs
STOCKTON (CBS 5) ―
From a packaging plant in Stockton, thousands of Duraflame logs make their way down the line and on their way into Bay Area homes. Made mostly of wood fiber, ground up nuts and shells plus plant oils, they may be the future for America's fireplaces.
Duraflame recently replaced petroleum waxes with plant-based waxes; a move they say makes their product renewable.
Air districts in Seattle and Portland have recommended artificial logs over old-fashioned wood. But the Bay Area Air Quality Management District has not warmed up to the logs, and is even considering an outright ban on fires when the inversion layer is bad.
