A former Dublin doctor accused of drugging and molesting male patients and friends was sentenced Wednesday to seven years and four months in state prison.
Alameda County Superior Court Judge Henry Ramsey sentenced 41-year-old Tony Shiu after he pleaded no contest in May to charges including felony sexual battery, administering a controlled substance, poisoning and committing lewd and lascivious acts on a minor.
Authorities said two men came forward in Aug. 2006 to report they had been drugged while at Shiu's house. Tests confirmed their suspicions and further investigation showed one of the men had been sodomized and raped.
Alameda County Sheriff's Sgt. Herb Walters, who investigated the case, said detectives later found 450 photographs at Shiu's home of more than a dozen of his male patients semi-nude and unconscious.
Shiu fled the Bay Area in September 2006 after learning that authorities were investigating him.
Authorities eventually tracked down Shiu in Taiwan, which deported him back to the United States on May 29, 2008.
Shiu practiced private general internal medicine. The Medical Board of California suspended his medical license in July 2007, but it has since been revoked.
