Emergency Crews Cut Man Out From Palo Alto Crash

PALO ALTO (CBS 5 / BCN) ― Emergency workers had to use the Jaws of Life Wednesday night to extract a 30-year-old man from his vehicle when in crashed off U.S. Highway 101 in Palo Alto, according to the fire department.

Emergency units from Palo Alto and Mountain View fire departments responded to a crash on Highway 101 near East Bayshore Road just before 8 p.m., according to the Palo Alto Fire Department. A sport utility vehicle traveling north on Highway 101 had rolled over through an embankment and landed upside down on East Bayshore Road, trapping the driver under the vehicle's dashboard.

The victim, who fire officials reported was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was extracted with the Jaws of Life and taken to Stanford Hospital.

Officials did not have an update on the victim's condition Thursday morning, and the crash remains under investigation.
