Man Barricades Himself In SF Residential Hotel
SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) ―
San Francisco police have detained a man who barricaded himself inside a residential hotel near downtown Monday afternoon and are taking him to a local hospital for a mental evaluation, a police sergeant said.
Police were notified around 3 p.m. by a doctor who wanted to check on the barricaded man in the hotel at 875 Post St., Sgt. Lyn Tomioka said.
When officers arrived at the man's room, "He opened the door and slammed it," Tomioka said.
Negotiators managed to contact the man by phone. He allegedly refused to comply with the officers' orders to show his hands as he left the room and police used a non-lethal, extended-range bean bag weapon to detain him, Tomioka said.
The man, who police say is 46-years-old, did not have a weapon and had been alone in the room, according to Tomioka.
He was taken to a local hospital for a mental evaluation.
Post Street between Larkin and Leavenworth streets were closed by the incident.
