Lightning Downs Power Lines In SF's Richmond Dist.

SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) ―

About 3,400 residents in San Francisco's Richmond District remained without power late Thursday after a few lightning bolts downed power lines onto Geary Boulevard.

Lightning struck just before 8 p.m. and dropped four power lines onto the boulevard between 43rd and 44th Ave., according to Pacific Gas and Electric Co.

Police and fire officials blocked off some streets in the area while utility crews removed the lines and made repairs.

The lightning bolt may have blown a transformer, according to PG&E spokesman J.D. Guidi.

The outage was affecting residents from Fulton St. to Geary Boulevard and anywhere from 12th Ave. to Great Highway.

There is no estimated time for when the remaining residents will get their power back, a utility spokesman said.
