Relatives of a 9-month-old Fremont boy who was mauled by the family dog have been arrested for child endangerment and keeping a dangerous animal.
Fremont police say the boy's 37-year-old aunt, Annette Marie Hodgson, and his 22-year-old sister, Samantha Alaniz, were arrested Friday.
Police say the boy underwent surgery for substantial but non-life-threatening injuries after Alaniz's boxer bit him on the face and neck on May 27. The dog was euthanized Friday.
Police say the dog had been quarantined May 11 after nipping an adult, but the animal was released because it did not meet the criteria for being dangerous.
Investigators say family members told police they had downplayed the first attack so they could get the dog back.
