Boxer That Mauled Fremont Baby To Be Euthanized

FREMONT (AP) ― Officials at an East Bay animal shelter say they plan to euthanize a dog that mauled a 9-month-old baby in his family's Fremont home -- the second such incident in a month.

Tri-City Animal Shelter officials say the dog, a 75-pound boxer named Tyson, would remain quarantined until Friday, but notified the pet's owners they would put it down after that.

The baby underwent surgery after the dog bit him on the face and neck Tuesday.

Police have asked prosecutors to charge one of the victim's relatives with child endangerment, but a decision is not expected until next week.

Fremont Police spokesman Bill Veteran says animal control officers quarantined Tyson for 10 days earlier in the month after the dog bit the baby's aunt, who was caring for him when he was attacked.
