Mom Killed, Son Hurt In Discovery Bay Boat Crash
DISCOVERY BAY (CBS 5 / AP / BCN) ―
A woman was killed and her teenage son critically injured after the WaveRunner watercraft they were riding collided Saturday with a 23-foot boat in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, authorities said.
According to the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office, 47-year-old Jill Hullen was riding with her 14-year-old son when the crash occurred about 4 p.m. near the waterfront community of Discovery Bay at Indian Slough.
Rescuers airlifted the boy to Children's Hospital Oakland shortly after the crash but could not locate his mother for several hours. He was listed in critical but stable condition.
Divers found Hullen's body in the water about 60 feet from shore three hours after the crash. An autopsy will be conducted on Hullen, a Discovery Bay resident, to determine her cause of death.
Sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee said no one on the boat was injured.
Deputies were investigating what caused the two boats to crash and have interviewed the occupants of the ski boat involved.
Anyone with any information regarding the crash was asked by investigators to call the Sheriff's Office Marine Patrol at (925) 427-8507.
