Oakland Newsstand Set To Close After 101 Years

OAKLAND (CBS 5) ― DeLauer's Super Newsstand, an Oakland institution for 101 years, is set to close its doors on Thursday. Modern times, along with the owner's declining health are leading to the end of an era.

Charles DeLauer, the owner of the newsstand has leukemia. Manager Fasil Lemme noted business has also slowed, as more people go to the internet for news.

In a last minute effor to try and save DeLauer's, the publisher of the Oakland Post and others met Tuesday night to write up a proposal, asking the city to help save the newsstand.
