DUI Suspected In Fatal High-Speed Crash Near Davis

DAVIS (BCN) ― The Solano County coroner's office has identified 53-year-old Bruce Wenokur as the victim of a fatal crash on state Highway 113 near Davis Monday night.

Witnesses reported seeing Wenokur, a Davis resident, driving his Mercedes Benz C240 recklessly and speeding east on Interstate Highway 80 around 9:20 p.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Willy Williford said.

As the car approached the transition road from eastbound I-80 to northbound Highway 113, it swerved onto a dirt grade along the road's south shoulder, Williford said.

The car skidded through the dirt and grass for almost 150 yards before it struck a steel support beam for an overhead sign, Williford said.

Wenokur, who was wearing a seat belt, died at the scene, Williford said.
The speedometer of the Mercedes was frozen at 90 mph, Williford said.

The CHP suspects alcohol was a factor in the crash, he said.
