Missing Danville Girl Returns Home Safely
DANVILLE (BCN) ―
A 12-year-old Danville girl who went missing Monday morning returned home at about midnight Monday unharmed, but very cold, according to Contra Costa County Sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee.
The girl's mother dropped her off at Charlotte Wood Middle School in Danville at about 8 a.m. Monday, Lee said.
At about 1 p.m., the school called the family and told them that the girl, Kimberly Parcasio, never showed up at school.
The family called the Danville police, who contract with the sheriff's office for law enforcement services, and filed a missing persons report.
Police entered Parcasio's name and description into the state missing persons database and issued a "be on the lookout for" notice to local law enforcement agencies.
Investigators interviewed Parcasio's teachers, friends and family, but nobody knew where she could have gone.
At 7 p.m., when Parcasio still hadn't been found, a full-blown search and rescue operation was launched, Lee said.
More than 60 search and rescue volunteers scoured the area on foot and with the help from a California Highway Patrol helicopter, several police dog units and all-terrain vehicles, Lee said.
Parcasio returned home on her own at about midnight because she had gotten too cold, Lee said.
According to Lee, it appears that the girl ran away possibly because of family or grade issues.
