Major Crash Briefly Closes I-680 In Danville
DANVILLE (BCN) ―
Traffic on Interstate Highway 680 in Danville was moving again Tuesday afternoon after the victims of a major-injury crash were taken to hospitals.
The crash, which happened shortly after noon on southbound I-680 just south of Greenbrook Drive, appears to have involved a tow truck, a flatbed truck, a car and possibly a fourth vehicle, according to initial reports.
The highway was briefly shut down in both directions to allow a medical helicopter to land on the roadway. The helicopter transported at least one patient to John Muir Medical Center, CHP Officer Kevin Kroncke said.
A ground ambulance was also sent to the crash site and took a patient to Eden Medical Center.
Initial reports indicated that three people were injured, Kroncke said.
Northbound lanes were reopened at 12:46 p.m. along with one southbound lane. Three southbound lanes were reopened shortly after 1:30 p.m.
The remaining southbound lanes and the shoulder reopened around 2:45 p.m.
