SFPD Crosswalk Sting Aims For Pedestrian Safety

SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) ― San Francisco police made several misdemeanor arrests and issued more than 120 citations to motorists during a pedestrian sting operation in the city's Ingleside District this week, a police captain said Wednesday.
 
In Operation Safe Crossing, carried out at several intersections, plainclothes officers posed as pedestrians in order to target motorists who fail to yield, according to San Francisco police Capt. David Lazar.

Police issued 52 citations at the intersection of Mission Street and Highland Avenue; 35 citations at Alemany Boulevard and San Juan Avenue; five citations at the entrance to southbound Interstate Highway 280 at Bosworth Street; 24 citations at Geneva Avenue and London Boulevard; and seven citations at Cortland Avenue and Anderson Street in Bernal Heights, Lazar said.

The sting operation also resulted in 10 arrests and vehicle tows, the majority of which were motorists caught driving without a valid license, police said.

The sting was part of an ongoing police effort to make the Ingleside District safe for pedestrians, said Lazar, the commanding officer of the Police Department's Ingleside station
