Cow Palace Gets Reprieve From Demolition Plans
DALY CITY (AP) ―
The Cow Palace will remain standing for now.
Plans to demolish the a 67-year-old arena that once hosted The Beatles and the 1964 Republican Convention are on hold after the state Senate declined to act on legislation to raze the building.
Daly City wants to buy part of the state-owned land so that it can be redeveloped into a site for an elementary school, market, homes and businesses.
A bill by state Sen. Leland Yee seeks to declare the Cow Palace surplus property, which would allow Daly City to negotiate directly with the state over its price.
The arena's proponents say more than half a million people a year attend stock shows, rodeos and concerts there.
Yee says he plans to talk to the parties involved, then bring the bill back to committee
