Grass Fire Burns Near Concord Homes

CONCORD (BCN) ― Firefighters Wednesday morning have remained on the scene of a 15-acre grass fire that burned land near a residential area in Concord, according to the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.

The two-alarm blaze was reported around 2 a.m. and burned between 10 and 15 acres of land behind 4597 Lincoln Drive, a fire dispatcher said.

Extra fire engines were sent to the area to protect nearby homes that remained untouched by flames, she said.

Firefighters controlled the blaze around 4:10 a.m., and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The land that burned is part of the U.S. Naval Weapons Station in Concord, according to the fire district.
