DUI Suspect Leads Concord Police On Hi-Speed Chase
CONCORD (BCN) ―
Concord police arrested a suspected drunken driver early Sunday morning after he allegedly ran a red light in front of a police officer at about 80 mph, Concord police Cpl. Kerry Cerletti said Monday.
The officer was stopped at the red light at about 1:20 a.m. in the left-turn lane of Treat Boulevard at Oak Grove Road when he saw a light blue Cadillac approaching at a high rate of speed.
The Cadillac allegedly ran the red light at an estimated 80 mph, Cerletti said.
The officer took off after him at about 90 mph.
As the officer was chasing the Cadillac, he saw the car rear-end another vehicle and keep going, Cerletti said.
The officer pursued the Cadillac for another half-mile before the driver yielded at the top of the hill at Thompson Drive.
The driver then got out of the car and allegedly resisted arrest. The officer took him down to the ground and was able to subdue him, Cerletti said.
Police identified the driver as 27-year-old Concord resident Michael Porter, Jr.
Porter was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, failing to yield to an officer and resisting arrest, Cerletti said.
No injuries were reported.
