SF Curbside Christmas Tree Recycling Begins

SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) ― The city of San Francisco and local recycling companies launched an annual curbside Christmas tree recycling campaign Friday with a wood-chipping demonstration in front of City Hall.

Beginning Friday through Jan. 16, Sunset Scavenger and Golden Gate Disposal & Recycling and S.F. Recycling & Disposal Inc. will pick up Christmas trees brought to the curb by 5.a.m. on regular recycling collection days, according to the Department of the Environment.

The trees, which should be readied for collection by removing any decorations, tree-stands and flocking, will eventually be chipped and recycled into mulch, compost or turned into high efficiency fuel, according to the Department of the Environment.

Trees can also be dropped off at the Haight-Ashbury Neighborhood Council at 780 Frederick St. until Jan. 18, and at Golden Gate Disposal and Recycling at 900 Seventh St. until Jan. 16.
