Bad Cell Coverage In S. Bay Due To Lack Of Towers

SAN JOSE (CBS 5) ― Silicon Valley is home to some of the biggest technology companies in the country. But the land of high-tech is also a trouble spot for cell phone reception.

In South San Jose's Evergreen neighborhood, frustration comes calling everyday. According to DeadCellZones.com, the area near Aborn and San Felipe Roads are notorious for bad coverage, receiving complaints from thousands of customers.

Joint Venture - Silicon Valley Network has authored a study titled, "How We Can Improve Cell Phone Coverage in Silicon Valley." The non-profit concluded the area has outgrown the existing network and more towers are needed.

Red tape, bureaucracy and misconceptions mean getting a new cell tower approved can often take up to two years. Joint Venture said better cell phone reception in Silicon Valley is possible if wireless customers, government and carriers work together.
