CBS 5 Poll: Garamendi Likely Congressional Winner

(CBS 5) A new CBS 5 poll released Thursday showed Democrat John Garamendi remained the favorite in the special election for California's 10th Congressional District seat.

The poll's results also found that half of the expected votes in the race have already been cast.

With five days until votes are counted, the poll conducted for CBS 5 by SurveryUSA showed Garamendi defeating Republican David Harmer by 10 percentage points.

The poll data showed Garamendi, the Lieutenant Governor of California, leading among women voters.

The data found Harmer, a businessman and son of a former lieutenant governor, leading among church-goers and gun-owners.

Three third-party candidates combined for 6% of the vote, while 4% remained undeceided, pollsters found.

Half of those voters surveyed said they have already voted.

The CBS 5 poll was conducted from 10/26/09 through 10/28/09 of 581 registered voters who were determined by SurveyUSA to have already voted, or to be likely to vote before by Nov. 3. It has a margin of error of ± 4.1%.

The congressional seat was vacated when sitting Democratic U.S. Rep. Ellen Tauscher joined the Obama administration.
