Man Charged In Castro Valley Car Rampage Hurting 6

 CBS 5 CrimeWatch

HAYWARD (CBS 5 / AP / BCN) ― A 19-year-old Pittsburg man was charged Wednesday with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly rammed his car into a Castro Valley duplex following a quarrel with his boyfriend.

Brandon Clark was arraigned in Alameda County Superior Court in Hayward on a total of 13 felony counts that also included battery, causing serious bodily injury, felony hit-and-run and felony vandalism.

Authorities said Clark drove into his boyfriend after the 20-year-old refused to return a cell phone and diamond ring Clark had given him as gifts. He then allegedly drove his Ford Fusion into the duplex in the 2200 block of Regent Way where his boyfriend lives.

The car came to a stop in the living room, causing extensive structural
damage to the building. Six people were injured in the incident.

The injured included the boyfriend, the boyfriend's 47-year-old mother and 15-year-old brother, a 20-year-old woman who lives in the duplex with her 18-month-old son, and an 18-year-old female passenger in the car -- who was a friend of the driver.

Alameda County Sheriff's Sgt. Scott Dudek said all of the victims were treated and released, except for the 20-year-old woman who suffered a broken neck who remained hospitalized Wednesday at Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley.

Clark wasn't injured in the incident and tried to flee but was arrested several miles away near Bay Area Rapid Transit tracks in Castro Valley.

Clark was being held without bail at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin. His next court appearance was scheduled for July 6, at which time he was expected to enter a plea, said Senior Deputy District Attorney Roy Scheingart.
