A 27-year-old San Francisco man was killed on a Mission District sidewalk Monday when a car being driven out of control, jumped a curb and hit him, police said.
The San Francisco medical examiner's office identified the victim as Gaspar Caballero-Sanchez. After being struck, he was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where he later died.
The car's driver, 35-year-old Jason Yantas, was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and driving under a revoked or suspended license, SFPD Sgt. Neville Gittens said.
According to witnesses, Yantas' gold two-door Jaguar convertible was speeding north on Mission Street between 21st and 22nd streets about 8 a.m.
The observers told police that the car jumped the curb and took out four parking meters before it hit the pedestrian, knocked him in the air and then rammed into a tree.
Yantas was arrested in the hospital, where he was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, Gittens said.
The crash remained under investigation.
