Two Milpitas cousins were found dead inside a fishing boat that capsized in rough waters off California's coast near Half Moon Bay on Saturday, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.
David Tien, 47, was an experienced, rough-water fisherman who was fishing with his cousin, Jim Hsu, 45, sheriff's Lt. Ray Lunny said.
The U.S. Coast Guard had launched a search for the victims after being notified around 10 a.m. that a boat was overturned about one nautical mile from Pillar Point Harbor.
According to the agency, Tien's 2007 22-foot Grady White motorboat was towed to the harbor around 3 p.m., and the bodies were discovered inside the cabin when the boat was righted.
Coast Guard officials said a family member confirmed that Tien and Hsu departed on a fishing trip early Saturday morning, and the bodies matched the family member's description.
Tien had birthed his boat at Pillar Point for the past three months and fished in the area three times before Saturday, Lunny said.
Anyone who might have witnessed the event or has information about it was asked by authorities to call the sheriff's office at (650) 363-4055. To remain anonymous, they could call (800) 547-2700.
