A man was hospitalized in critical condition Friday after being struck by a Caltrain train in Mountain View while he was crossing the tracks, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.
The incident was the third in a little more than a week involving Caltrain.
The man, described as a "trespasser" by authorites, was hit by
a northbound No. 101 train around 5:15 a.m. near the state Highway 85 overpass.
"He was trespassing where there were numerous no trespassing signs," sheriff's Detective Victor Lopez said.
The passengers were transported to another train to finish their commute, Caltrain spokeswoman Christine Dunn said.
Trains ran about 20 minutes late while the incident was investigated. As of 9 a.m., all trains were back on schedule, Dunn said.
On Thursday, another train collided with a car crossing Caltrain tracks in San Jose, sending the 28-year-old woman driver to the hospital in critical condition, Lopez said.
And On Oct. 30, a 56-year-old San Mateo man was killed when his pickup truck was hit by a Caltrain.
"We just want people to be aware that when crossing the railroad tracks to make sure they obey all traffic signs and just be careful around railroads," Lopez said,
