SJ Driver Dies From Injuries After Amtrak Crash
SAN JOSE (BCN) ―
A woman whose car was struck by a train as she drove across Caltrain tracks in San Jose on Nov. 6 has died.
San Mateo County Sheriff's Detective Victor Lopez identified the woman as Lucy Lira, 30, of San Jose.
A train struck Lira's Toyota Corolla shortly before 7 a.m. on Nov. 6 while she was attempting to drive across the tracks at a private crossing near the Blossom Hill station.
Lira was alone in the car and heading home after dropping her father off at work, Lopez said. She was taken to Regional Medical Center of San Jose with major head injuries.
She died at the hospital Nov. 11.
Lopez said the investigation into the collision is continuing but that it appears to have been an accident.
Lopez has said it is possible Lira was blinded by the morning sun and did not see the train approaching as she tried to cross the tracks.
