Man Posing As Book Salesman Fondles Novato Woman

 CBS 5 CrimeWatch

NOVATO (BCN) ― Novato police said a woman was fondled after a man posing as a book salesman forced his way into her apartment Thursday afternoon.

Sgt. Keith Heiden said the incident happened at 5:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of Center Road. The 21-year-old woman opened her door slightly and the man forced his way in and fondled her through her clothing while restraining her, Heiden said.

The two struggled, the woman screamed and the man fled, Heiden said. Police searched the area with a dog but the suspect escaped. The woman suffered minor injuries.

Lt. Dave Jeffries said this morning the man had an advertising brochure of some sort. Door-to-door salespersons need a permit with a photo identification and the signature of the police chief, Jeffries said.

The suspect is a black man in his early 20s, 5 feet 4 inches to 5 feet 9 inches. He was wearing a white dress shirt with a tie, a green sweatshirt and dark jeans, police said.
