The people arrested for illegal lodging after coming down from the trees in Memorial Grove on the University of California, Berkeley campus could be on the hook for some big bucks.
Five tree sitters were found guilty of violating a judge's injunction last month and each was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine.
CBS 5 Insider Phil Matier reported in his San Francisco Chronicle column Monday that UC Berkeley now wants to recoup $10,000 from each of those tree sitters and others coming to trial in the weeks ahead.
The school estimated that it spent more than $800,000 in police and other security during the nearly two-year long protest.
