Rash Of Plumbing Thefts At UC Berkeley Campus
BERKELEY (CBS 5 / AP) ―
Finding a bathroom on the UC Berkeley campus may be getting a bit more difficult because thieves have been making off with some of the university's plumbing.
Police say burglars have been using tools to remove brass hardware from bathrooms in buildings across the campus.
Campus police Capt. Margo Bennett said the parts stolen in more than three dozen incidents in the recent rash of thefts have cost the school more than $9,000. It's believed the stolen brass parts are being sold as scrap or to metal dealers.
Bennet said because of a lack of eyewitnesses, police are hoping people on campus will call them if they see a suspicious person with bags that look like they're carrying tools or parts.
