Home Burglaries On The Rise In Berkeley
BERKELEY (BCN) ―
A string of daytime home burglaries in Berkeley over the last two months has prompted police to warn residents on Friday to be mindful and help stop the crimes with any information they can share.
According to the Berkeley Police Department, which has been working with police in Kensington where there has also been a recent increase in burglaries, there have been at least 15 burglaries in Berkeley that appear to be linked.
Police said the suspect or suspects have been mainly kicking in doors of Berkeley homes and making off with bicycles, jewelry and electronic equipment including laptop computers.
One resident was able to supply police with a description of two suspects, saying one was a black man between 18 and 20 years old, 5 feet 7 inches tall, 140 pounds with a thin build and wearing a white shirt and black jeans. They were seen fleeing in a 1980s silver, gray or blue Honda, police said.
Police said community members who notice suspicious people or activity in their neighborhoods are urged to call police at (510) 981-5900.
