Flasher Poses As Salesman In Berkeley Neighborhood

BERKELEY (BCN) ― A man posing as a newspaper salesperson who flashed a woman after she opened her door to him last month has prompted Berkeley police to remind residents to stay alert and be wary of strangers.

On June 28, two men pretending to be newspaper subscription salesmen were allowed into the home of a woman in the 1900 block of Berkeley Way under the pretence they were selling newspaper subscriptions, according to police.

After a brief discussion inside, one of the men left the apartment.

The other man then exposed his genitals to the victim before leaving, police said.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 20s, about 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall with a heavy build and dark hair.

Residents are reminded to be wary of opening the door to solicitors or strangers, be alert to surroundings, walk or travel with a friend whenever possible and stay in well-lighted areas as much as possible.
