Suspect Sought In Benicia Bank Robbery

 CBS 5 CrimeWatch

BENICIA (BCN) ― Benicia police searched for a man suspected of robbing a bank Thursday morning just before noon, according to the Police Department.

Officers responded at about 11:50 a.m. to reports of an armed robbery at the Umpqua Bank, 1395 E. Second St., police said.

The suspect had entered the bank, approached two female tellers with a handgun and demanded money, police said.

The suspect, described as a black man weighing about 240 pounds and wearing a black plaid jacket, fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash, according to police.

A witness reportedly told police that the suspect left the area in a red or burgundy sedan traveling westbound on East N Street and southbound on West Second Street, police said.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the Benicia Police Department's Investigations Division (707) 745-3411.
