Bay Meadows was a busy place as thousands of people showed up to see the last day of horse racing at the track.
More than 10,000 peoplewell above the weekend average of 4,000 -- swarmed into the San Mateo track Sunday for the final day of racing.
The 74-year-old race track is due to be torn down to make way for a development project that includes 83 acres of housing, office and retail space.
Bay Meadows has plenty of racing history. It was home to the longest-running stakes event in Californiathe Bay Meadows Handicapcaptured twice by Seabiscuit.
Russell Baze became the sport's winningest jockey in 2006 when he rode to his 9,531th victory at Bay Meadows.
