Bay Area Showed Improving Job Growth in 2005
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) ―
The Bay Area job picture saw some significant turnaround in 2005.
KCBS reporter Mike Colgan says that figures from the Employment Development Department show most Bay Area counties saw job growth last year.
"The San Francisco, San Mateo, Marin areas saw a growth for twelve consecutive months for total job figures compared to the prior year and the same held true for the Alameda, Contra Costa county area for more than twelve months," said labor analyst Ruth Cavanaugh.
Santa Clara County saw its lowest December jobless rate in five years at 4.5%. "Many of the job gains were seasonal, related to the holidays but some of the job gains were not," she said.
Manufacturing showed a gain of 400 jobs.
