Bay Area residents feeling stressed by a heat wave found relief Sunday from triple and near triple-digit temperatures that had become commonplace in recent days.
Sunday's temperatures in much of the region were expected to be 10 to 15 degrees cooler than the day before, the National Weather Service said.
Thermometers had surged all over the area again Saturday, including reaching 95 degrees at San Jose.
Wildfires also have erupted in the hot, dry weather, with the governor's office saying Sunday that lightning had sparked about 400 fires in Northern California.
Firefighters feared additional blazes because of tinder-dry conditions following the driest spring on record.
