Bay Area Heat Wave Warning On Wednesday & Thursday
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5 / KCBS) ―
The National Weather Service has issued an
Excessive Heat Watch for Wednesday and Thursday, saying the Bay Area can expect a dangerous heat wave.
The record breaking heat event will be the result of a strong ridge of high pressure that is developing over the West Coast. Temperates in most inland areas are expected to reach well into the 90s and lower 100s.
The NWS Hazardous Weather Outlook said record high temperatures in the 90s are expected even along the coast, and may persist through the end of the week.
The hottest locations should be around the Pleasanton/Danville/San Ramon areas in the East Bay. A little farther out to Brentwood, Tracy, Oakley and Discovery Bay will be equally as hot. In the North Bay, Napa should hit 100, and to the South, Morgan Hill will likely reach 100 degrees.
People should remember to drink plenty of water during the hot weather, the weather service advised. They also suggested taking precautions against the heat by limiting stressful outdoor activities during the heat wave.
In addition, the potential of fire danger will also be high. Relative humidity will drop between 10 and 15 percent during the heat wave.
Adding to the fire concern is expected to be moderate offshore winds Wednesday night into Thursday morning. North-northeast winds will gust from 40 to 50 mph, with the possibility of wind advisories, which will further dry local landscape.
