San Mateo police were searching for two men suspected of a midday bank robbery Thursday, according to police.
The Police Department received a report of a robbery around noon from a clerk at the San Mateo Credit Union Bank at 1515 S. El Camino Real, according to police.
Witnesses reportedly told responding officers that an apparently unarmed man walked into the bank and handed the bank teller a note demanding money, police reported. The man received an undisclosed amount of cash and walked out of the bank and southbound on El Camino Real.
The patrons and bank employees in the bank during the robbery were unharmed, police reported.
The suspect, described as a black man in his 20s standing about 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing about 170 pounds and wearing his hair in dreadlocks pulled back into two buns, may have fled the area in a newer model silver four-door pickup truck.
A second suspect seen in the vehicle was described as a male adult with a thin build and a goatee, according to police, who believe he may have been the driver of the suspect car.
Officers searching the surrounding area were unsuccessful in locating the suspects, and are asking anyone with information to contact the Investigations Bureau at (650) 522-7650 or the San Mateo Police anonymous hot line at (650) 522-7676.
