Alleged E. Bay Bank Robbers Shot By Police

 CBS 5 CrimeWatch

ANTIOCH (CBS 5 / BCN) ― Two men were shot and wounded in Pittsburg after allegedly robbing an Antioch bank late Saturday morning and leading police on a chase, authorities said.

The robbery occured at the Wells Fargo bank branch at A and 18th streets in Antioch around 11:10 a.m., according to Antioch police Lt. Robin Kelley.

Three men, reportedly armed with machine guns, walked into the bank and ordered everyone onto the floor. One witness said the gunmen beat a bank manager, and held a gun to a female teller's head. The witness said one of the gunmen hit the teller several times with his gun.

There were customers inside the bank when it was robbed, but none were injured, Kelley said.

The suspects fled after the robbery, and police who responded to the bank pursued them to Pittsburg, where the chase ended with two of the suspects being shot and wounded, Kelley said. The third suspect was taken into police custody unhurt and no officers were injured.

Kelley did not know which officers shot the suspects or what their conditions were. The two wounded men were transported by ambulance to local hospitals.

Police have yet to release the suspects' names. It is not known whether these suspects are connected to a bank robbery with a machine gun in Pinole on Friday, or the recent rash of takeover-style restuarant robberies in Oakland.
