Police Retract Claim About Bailey Murder Weapon

OAKLAND (BCN) ― The shotgun used to kill Oakland Post editor Chauncey Bailey is not the same weapon used in an attempted murder of John Bey in June 2005, the Oakland Police Department said Friday.

The department issued the statement as a correction to a Thursday report linking the weapon used in Bailey's murder to an attempted murder on Bey.

The department said a "misunderstanding between the crime lab and homicide investigators" led to the releasing of incorrect information.

Oakland police are now saying that the shotgun used to kill Bailey has been positively linked to a December 2006 firearm assault incident in which an unoccupied vehicle was shot numerous times.
