Cities Throw Support Behind A's Move To San Jose
SAN JOSE (CBS 5 / KCBS) ―
At least 7 cities in the South Bay have submitted resolutions to Major League Baseball in support of San Jose's bid for the Oakland A's.
The effort is being led by Supervisor Dave Cortese, who hopes baseball commissioner Bud Selig will rescind the San Francisco Giants' territorial rights to the South Bay, which they were granted in 1992.
Cortese helped organize a lobbying effort to get all cities in the county to pass resolutions supporting San Jose's bid.
The ballpark would be located on a 23-acre site just south of the Diridon Caltrain station.
The San Francisco Giants, though, have said repeatedly that they have no plans to relinquish their territorial rights to the South Bay.
