$1.4 M Damages In Fatal Fremont Apartment Fire
FREMONT (BCN) ―
A four-alarm fatal fire in a two-story apartment complex in Fremont on Friday caused an estimated $1.4 million in damage, the deputy fire chief said Saturday.
The man who died in the blaze reportedly lived in a unit on the first floor of the building, Fremont Fire Department Deputy Fire Chief Geoff LaTendresse said. The man's identity has not been released.
Of the 16 units at Pennsylvania Apartments, at 3600 Pennsylvania Ave., four had significant smoke damage. The other units suffered heavy smoke damage.
There was about $1.2 million damage to the structure and $200,000 to the contents, LaTendresse said Saturday.
The American Red Cross assisted 33 residents displaced by the fire.
Firefighters from Union City, Newark and Hayward assisted with the blaze that was first reported at about 7 a.m. and controlled by about 7:25 a.m., said Fremont Fire Department Battalion Chief Mark Neveau.
Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire, LaTendresse said.
