A 10-month-old baby who was revived by her father after falling into a swimming pool in Antioch Wednesday morning is expected to make a full recovery, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District spokeswoman Emily
Hopkins said.
The child was in her walker when she fell into the pool at about 8:45 a.m. at her family's home in the 5000 block of Star Mine Way.
When she was pulled out of the pool, she had no pulse and was not breathing, Hopkins said.
The child's father immediately began administering CPR and had revived her by the time paramedics arrived, Hopkins said.
She was taken by helicopter to Children's Hospital in Oakland. She was still in the hospital this afternoon, but was awake and making "happy noises," Hopkins said.
The fact that the baby's father discovered her so quickly and knew how to perform CPR on an infant likely saved the child's life, Hopkins said.
"That's why we encourage everyone to learn CPR, especially parents," Hopkins said.
She added that most people who end up using CPR do so on a member of their own family.
