Man Killed Crossing Train Tracks In San Leandro

A male victim attempting to cross train tracks was struck and killed by an Amtrak train Thursday night in San Leandro, according to officials.

The victim was running northbound on the east side of Hesperian Boulevard when the victim tried to cross the tracks at the intersection of Hesperian Boulevard and Springlake Drive just after 8 p.m., police said.

An Amtrak train traveling at about 76 mph slammed into the victim, police said.
A witness reportedly said the victim was running and tried to beat the train across the intersection.

Railroad crossing arms at the intersection were working properly, and the Amtrak train sounded its horn prior to and during the incident, according to police.
