Person On Tracks Hit, Killed By Amtrak Train
BERKELEY (CBS 5 / BCN) ―
An Amtrak train hit and killed a person crossing the tracks just east of the Berkeley station Thursday morning, according to an Amtrak spokeswoman.
The incident, which happened at 8:12 am, led to a three-hour delay of the Chicago-bound California Zephyr train,
said Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham.
The Berkeley station is located at University Avenue
and Third Street
Train No. 6 departed from Emeryville and was
carrying 73 passengers at the time of the crash, Graham said.
The speed of the train when it struck the
victim has not yet been reported, according to Graham.
Four Capital Corridor trains headed from Sacramento to San
Jose were delayed as a result of the crash as well,
Graham said.
Train No. 526 was delayed one hour and five
minutes, train No. 527 was delayed two hours and 15 minutes, train No. 528 was
delayed 43 minutes and train No. 533 was delayed 28 minutes, according to
Graham.
Train No. 6 resumed service at 10:58 a.m., Graham
said.
No passengers or crew reported injuries, Graham
added.
