Air passengers soon will no longer be able to board American Airlines flights from Oakland.
Oakland International Airport announced Monday that the airline is discontinuing service to Oakland effective Sept. 3. The company cites soaring fuel costs as a reason for stopping the three, daily flights between Oakland and Dallas, along with many other routes around the country.
Airport officials say American represented only 1 percent of Oakland International's total aviation revenue, and about 216,000 people fly from Oakland to Dallas-Ft. Worth each year. Passengers still can catch flights to Dallas on other airlines at Oakland, or on American from San Francisco's airport.
